Alvin H. EinbenderAlvin H. Einbender

Alvin Einbender brings more than 50 years of business and financial services experience to Gerstein Fisher’s Strategic Advisory Board. Mr. Einbender was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., where he worked from 1975 to 1993. He served as a Director of the Company and a member of its Executive Committee from 1985 to 1993.

Prior to Bear Stearns, Mr. Einbender was a President and Chief Operating Officer for Shelter Resources Corp. and a co-founder, Executive Vice President of and Chairman of the Executive Committee of National Industries. Previously, he was a practicing attorney with the firm of Margolin and Kirwan in Kansas City, Missouri.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Einbender served two terms as an elected Governor of the American Stock Exchange. He founded the Alvin H. Einbender Chair of Business Ethics at the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University and is a member of the Board of the Sy Syms Schools. He was elected Chairman of the Board of the Jerusalem Foundation in 1993 and is involved with numerous non-profit organizations as an active Board member.

Mr. Einbender received a BS and JD from the University of Missouri. He served as a 1st Lieutenant, JAG, in the United States Air Force.


Frances X. Frei, PhDFrances X. Frei, PhD

Frances Frei is a Professor in the Technology and Operations Management Unit at Harvard Business School and the Senior Associate Dean, Director of Faculty Planning and Recruiting.  She is the best-selling author of “Uncommon Service: How to Win by Putting Customers at the Core of Your Business” (Harvard Business Review Press). Her research examines how organizations can build service models that reliably deliver excellence.  Dr. Frei’s work has been published in top-tier journals such as Management Science and Harvard Business Review.  In addition, she has published dozens of case studies across a variety of industries, including financial services, government, retail, software, telecommunications, and hospitality.  These cases include Zipcar, eBay, Southwest Airlines, Tiffany’s, Houston Rockets, Commerce Bank, Progressive Insurance, Orient Express Hotels and Zappos, among others.

Dr. Frei received her PhD in Operations and Information Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.  She holds an ME in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Boris Groysberg, DBABoris Groysberg, DBA

Boris Groysberg is a professor of business administration in the Organizational Behavior unit at the Harvard Business School. Currently, he teaches courses on talent management and leadership in the school’s MBA and Executive Education programs.

Dr. Groysberg has won numerous awards for his research, which focuses on the challenges of managing human capital and leadership at small and large organizations across the world. His work focuses, in particular, on how firms can achieve a sustainable competitive advantage by engaging employees in the implementation of business strategy. He  is author of the award-winning books Chasing Stars: The Myth of Talent and the Portability of Performance and Talk Inc: How Trusted Leaders Use Conversation to Power their Organizations. A frequent contributor to Harvard Business Review, Dr. Groysberg  has written many articles and case studies on how firms hire, engage, develop, retain, and communicate with their talented employees. Before joining the Harvard Business School faculty, he worked at IBM.

Dr. Groysberg holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in Business Policy from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York University.

Lawrence King Lawrence King, PhD

Lawrence King is an internationally respected expert and speaker on organizational behavior and leadership development. For over 30 years, Mr. King has been affiliated with Vistage International, an organization founded in 1957 to help chief executives, business leaders, and companies make smarter decisions, achieve better results, succeed and grow.

Prior to his tenure with Vistage, Mr. King was a behavioral scientist focused on applied research. He led a research team of 12 doctoral-level scientists in a National Institute of Mental Health/UCLA School of Medicine program to innovate and disseminate treatment and management practices to 40 community mental health centers throughout the country.

Mr. King holds a BA degree from Auburn University and an MS and a PhD from Florida State University.


Andrew H. Levy, JDAndrew H. Levy, JD

Andrew H. Levy is Senior Counsel at DLA Piper LLP, a global law firm. Mr. Levy serves the business and legal needs of participants in the real estate and private equity industries throughout the United States and in various international matters.

He has considerable experience representing privately held and capital markets industry clients in acquisitions and dispositions, public and private equity and debt transactions, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures and real estate bankruptcies, foreclosures, restructurings, refinancing and leasing. Mr. Levy is actively involved in inbound and outbound cross-border transactions and represents a number of diverse institutional and boutique real estate opportunity funds. His clients include lenders and borrowers in balance sheet and highly structured financings.

Mr. Levy has been a frequent lecturer and author, and his work is published regularly in industry and trade journals. Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business has ranked Mr. Levy among the top real estate lawyers in New York in every year since 2009. Mr. Levy has been named in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2006, designated a New York Super Lawyer every year since 2006 and cited in The International Who’s Who of Real Estate Lawyers every year since 2002.

Mr. Levy is a member of the prestigious American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL).  Levy is a cum laude graduate of both Harvard Law School and Harvard College.


Jay L. LewisJay L. Lewis

Jay Lewis was co-founder, president and CEO of Nathan & Lewis Securities, Inc., from 1976 to 1998. With Nathan & Lewis, he pioneered the first full-service independent broker-dealer firm in New York serving financial planners, investment advisors, insurance agents and their clients. The firm has since been recognized as instrumental in paving the way for the explosive growth of independent financial advisors. In 1998, with 900 affiliated registered representatives nationwide and a New York home office staff of 100, Nathan & Lewis was acquired by MetLife.

Mr. Lewis has further worked to advance the financial services industry by fostering the highest standards of ethics, knowledge and skills of its members. To this end, he was a founder of the New York City Chapter of the Financial Planning Association in 1975 and represented the chapter on the organization’s national board. He also was a founding member of the Mutual Fund Forum (1982) and the mutual fund division of the regulatory agency FINRA (formerly NASD).

In 1995 Mr. Lewis was a recipient of Inc. magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He currently serves on the boards of directors and advisory boards of a number of non-profit and for-profit companies. Mr. Lewis holds a BS degree from New York University.


Maureen McGurlMaureen McGurl

Maureen McGurl is Founder and President of Sutton Place HR Consulting Group LLC, a human capital consultancy serving a cross-section of industries and companies. With a track record of helping to build high-performance organizations, Ms. McGurl is a thought leader and change agent with deep HR expertise. In addition to helping firms optimally align organizational elements to deliver on their mission, Ms. McGurl serves as an executive coach to C-Suite executives.

Ms. McGurl has served as Chief Human Resources Officer and member of the executive committee of Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Olsten Corporation, and Supermarkets General. All of these companies were involved in significant transformation efforts, including mergers, acquisitions and other measures to improve performance. Ms. McGurl built top-talent HR functions to support the strategic initiatives of these businesses, drove organization development efforts, and strengthened their management pipelines and talent pools.

She is Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Dome, a non- profit organization serving the youth of New York City, and a past board member of the Network of Executive Women, where she continues to serve on its Compensation Committee.
Ms. McGurl received her BA in Mathematics from Marywood University and attended Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development.
